The Loser Club
Djibriel, January 2006
Note that while there is more dummied content in the game, this is mostly
hard-core hacking data which concerns the dummied sound effects and dummied
graphics, such as a graphic for a single dice rolling (unlike Dice which uses
two and Fixed Dice which uses three) or the character party running from left
to right (unlike in the SrBehemoth fight where you run from right to left).
This data was considered Not Quite Dummy Enough for the site. It would hardly
be fun to read and it would turn the page into a bunch of info, which is not
the intention.

Foreword
**********************************
It seems
strange to write a foreword for the Loser Club. I’m still young by most
standard, but when I look at what I basically wrote three years ago, so much
seems changed. Back then, it was a badly constructed site hosted by
greatnow.com; now the site is slightly nicer on the eyes, more maneouvrable and
hosted by the Caves of Narshe, making sure no pop-ups obscure the sight of the
Loser Club. Back then, it was the prime attraction of my otherwise crappy site;
now, some of my text documents have a major public (though mostly on GameFAQs).
This
project started way back when I had far more time to spend freely than I have
now. I was young, I wanted stuff, and while this was even before my very first
officially released FF VI document I spend a lot of time on forums about the
game. I wanted a site of myself, but wanted to have something no other site
had. Another weapon list, after all, seemed pointless.
The Loser
Club has undergone quite a few changes. A lot of things have been removed as
they were recognized as something you actually could see in-game, and a lot of
things were added as myself and others discovered more and more hidden bits of
the game. It’s purpose hasn’t changed, though; it’s still a
nice read-through on a rainy day about everything you’ve never
specifically wanted to know about FF VI but might be interested in now that you’ve
stumbled upon it.

1.0 Monsters
**********************************
There's
an Umaro which was probably created for you to fight in the World of
Balance. Since he’s level 14, I’d say you were to face him
after Kefka’s raid of Narshe. Umaro the 1st has no Battle Script
installed yet, but these are his stats:
Umaro
HP: 2000
MP: 300
Level: 14
Exp.: 0
GP left: 0
Absorbs: Ice
Weakness: Fire, Poison
No items to Steal or left
behind
Collosus is a boss that was nothing really special
as far as difficult battle goes, but quite special on this site because he was
completely worked out; he even had a Battle Script ready. I think his
palette would have been changed would he have been installed, but the Leader
you fight with Cyan and the Sp Force share both the same sprite and the same
palette too. Here he is. The Command Script is pretty much a text dump from
Lord J's program, as this is the most commonly known.
Collosus
HP: 18000
MP: 2000
Level: 73
Exp.: 0
GP left: 0
Weakness: Wind
No items to Steal
Leaves always a Bandana behind
It’s Special attack wasn’t modified yet, and is called
‘Hit’ while being a Level 1 Special attack, like all dummied
Specials. It's possible/probably that this was to be changed later, but it's
the only Level 1 Special that is actually used in a battle script rather then
showing up after Sketching.

And
this is the infamous CzarDragon, the new and improved version of FF V’s
Shinryu. No significant Battle script (just Battle over and over). Pretty much
every self-respecting hack of the game has a CzarDragon in it as a bizarrely
intense and difficult opponent. FF V’s Shinryu legalizes that, since he
was the most difficult boss in the game (not counting the useless-to-beat Omega
Weapon).

And finally a dummied Kefka! He looks exactly like a Guard (same palette
and all), but this is not cusprising as it is the first (# 00) sprite in the
game, meaning that is was automatic. This is really the dummy appearance, and
it’s clear that he was never to show. I’m pretty sure this
Kefka was intended to be used to switch the tiers of the Final Battle
(take a look at his battle script). He has an inherent Hide status, which means
that he’s never targetable. This Kefka does NOT show up in the grouping
of the actual tiers, so it is definately a dummy. My bet would be that
they created him for the switching of the tiers and then came up with a better
way to do it. Once again, the battle script comes from Lord J's program.

2.0 Attacks
**********************************
There are even a few dummy
spells in the game. If the words 'Heart Burn' sounds familiar to you, that's
because it was the Special attack of Crawly, the worm monster in the Cave of
Figaro.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1 Spells
**********************************
Clear was
obviously intended to be a move that made the caster invisible. The game
designers left it to do something different....it looks like nothing you can
see in the game. It's like yellow psychic waves moving over the screen. The
data as stored in the game could never have been the true intent of the move,
as you'll see from the description:
Inflicts Blind, Poison, Imp, Count, Mute, Confuse, Seizure, Sleep and
Stop at the caster. It costs 20 MP and it can't be dogded by Magic Block.
And here's a
neat image:
Confusion
was a move you should be glad about...glad about the fact it's a dummy, that
is. It should have been the only multi-target move that inflicts the Confuse
status and that the enemy could use against you (since Confuser, Cat
Rain and the NoiseBlaster don't seem very likely to show up). It looks
exactly like Level 3 Muddle, but doesn't show any text when it hits.
Inflicts Confuse at all targets. It costs 20 MP and has a 68 Hit Rate.
Obviously, it automatically misses when the target has a Confuse status
protection.
Heart Burn
is a move that was never used in the game. That's why it's on this page, see?
Causes non-elemental damage
against either one or all targets (same targetting method as for instance Fire
2) with a base power of 30 and a Hit Rate of 120. It costs 20 MP. It looks like
the actual Heart Burn special of Crawly, or the Slip Gunk special of Flan. It
does NOT set the Seizure status, were you thinking that.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.2 Specials
**********************************
It's a real
shame that the game programmers installed the boring Special, Battle Sketch
list for most bosses (not to mention the ability to Charm the opponents into
using them), thus allowing some Special attacks that would normally never be
seen (such as Wrexsoul's KarmicBlow and Rhodox' Near Fatal) to appear, and
therefore not making it a dummy. This is a list that is for dummies only, and
these Special attacks are not listed here. Also, the standard Special attack,
called 'Hit' and being a Level 1 Special, should it be dummied on a monster
(happens all the time) is not listed here.
Whisper: Impmare (causes the Imp status ailment)
Siegfried (Colloseum): Knuckles (Level 8 Special)
Chupon (Colloseum): Imp Goo (causes the Poison status ailment)
Didalos: PoisonTusk (causes the Poison status ailment)
Veteran: Critical (Level 3 Special)
**********************************
3.0 Characters
**********************************
Some dummy
characters! Whoopy! These were never granted sprites or something like that,
but it’s fun just to know. All of these have Dirks equipped in ALL their
slots (Helmet, Relic slots, you name it) since the item number of the Dirk is
00, have the Fight command in all four command slots and have a 0 for all their
stats such as Vigor and stuff like that. The dummy character lay-out, I guess.
Here we go:

Custer
Fabian
Drake
Sara
Case
Siele
Ray
Reiker
Lance
Bob
Pepper

4.0 Items
**********************************
I've heard that the original strategy guide mentiones a Thunder Armor. This was
never programmed and does not appear in the game at all. There's nothing
further to mention, but you can bet it would've absorbed Lightning-elemental
spells. Using my image skills (in other words, the Multi Editor), I came up
with a 'would-be' image It's a little magnified for the ultimate viewing
experience:
Well, that was lame. Note
that this was inserted because the Thunder Armor in fact does appear in some
FAQ/guides/etc., so this is a general dummy, not one that was put in the
program.
Strago and
Relm use Stuffed Toys for weapons?
Now this is interesting. While not actually in the game coding, the game it's
Strategy Guide mentions that Strago and Relm have Stuffed Toys for weapons.
Obviously this never made it, but the idea was nice at the time. Square
propably agreed, as they did use these weapons on Lulu in Final Fantasy X.
**********************************
5.0 Key items
**********************************
There are even dummy key items in the game, and they are the following. You can
get them with codes, but they serve no function. I can throw a wild guess here
and there about the hypothetical place of these items. The words in 'strong'
font are the American translations by Ted Woolsey, the normal ones are the
translations of Sky Render (which are more accurate).
Actress' Autograph - An autograph Autograph - An opera singer's autograph
Manicure - A manicure Manicure - Pretty, red manicure
Opera Record - It's scratched Opera Record - Has a small scratch
Magnifying Glass - A magnifying lens Magn. Glass - A convex lens
Unusual Stone - An eerie stone Eerie stone - A stone never seen
Strange Picture - What a neat picture! Odd picture - A very curious picture
Scrap of Paper - A rather boring picture Dull Picture - Quite a common picture

6.0 Glossary

This is a
list of monster formations that never appeared in the game, in the game data
order. There are several monster formations that are identical to others which
ARE used in the game: there are two Allo Ver monster formations (which caused a
bug as they wrong one was used rahter then the good one), three Dirt Drgn
monster formations? I haven’t listed them here because listing them would
be pointless and a lot of work (to find out which one are used an which ones
are dummied).

7.0 Miscalleneous

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.1 Gauntlet
Metamorph pack
**********************************
There's a dummy morph pack! It's number 15 and it randomly choses
between three Tonics and a Gauntlet! Wow, this totally changed my perspective
on the game en general and the morphing in particular,
not to mention the new look you get in the mind of Ragnarok! Aren't you
thrilled you finally know this information?
There are two more morph packs that aren't used in the game, and those are
three Tonics and an X-Potion (no. 12) and three Tonics and an X-Ether (no. 13).
It's too bad you can't morph enemies in the game into X-Ethers. While being
completely useless since the Elixir does the same thing and also better, the
X-Ether always kept a certain coolness. It is the ONLY actual item (not
counting weapons and armor and the like here) that you cannot get infinite
amounts of.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.2 Summon
**********************************
There's a dummy command called 'Summon' which you cannot get until you start
hacking away. This command would have allowed you to summon the equipped Esper
over and over again in a single battle (without the MP cost), but due to a bug
in the targetting method, all offensive Espers (those who will attack the enemy
party) will not be carried out and the command will be automatically aborted
when used. There's a Bug Fix Patch on RPGLegion.com if you want to make use of
it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.3 Rages
**********************************
There are four dummied Rages in the game of Final Fantasy. There's a Patch that
allows you to encounter Siegfried and Chupon on the Veldt after you met them at
the Colloseum, and which also replaces the 'wrong' # 515 Allo Ver with the
'right' #126 Allo Ver. The rages include:
Siegfried:
Battle, Flare
Siegfried's Rage is a rage that would've let you use Flare as well as the
standard Battle command. It wouldn't have been a very good Rage, since Gau
becomes weak against all elements and hardly has any status immunities (Stone,
Doom, Countdown). It also would've included an inherent Safe status that you
can find on better Rages then this one. This is the Siegfried from the
Colloseum, not the one from the Phantom Train.
Chupon:
Battle, W Wind
Chupon's Rage is not a very good one either: while sporting two weaknesses (Ice
and Water) and being vulnerable to all status ailments short of Zombie, Poison,
M-Tek, Imp, Stone, Death, Count, Weak, Confuse and Seizure, the attacks
Gau would perform under the Chupon Rage are Battle and W Wind, which is a move
you most likely can live without.
Allo Ver:
Battle, Quake
The Allo Ver you fight in the Cave of the Veldt appears in monster formation
515, a formation that does not appear on the Veldt since only monster
formations 0 trough 511 (I have no idea why this number is a total amount
of 512 monster formations) appear on the Veldt. There is another monster
formation (which would be no. 126) that includes a sinlge Allo Ver (and also
gives you a whole MP for your troubles fighting him) which was to be used, but
the game programmers had a rough day that day and installed no. 515 for you to
fight in the chest instead of the correct no. 126. The Allo Ver Rage
would've given Gau the usual undead abilities of actually being undead,
absorbing poison-elemental attacks and being weak against fire- and
pearl-elemental moves. The Allo Ver Rage would have sported a resistence
against Poison, Imp, Mute, Berserk, Sleep and Stop. The attacks listed
under the Rage are Battle and Quake.
Pugs:
Battle, Special (Knife)
The last Rage is a mistake from the game programmers. The Pugs Rage is a Rage
that does exist, while the Pugs monsters also appear on the Veldt. However,
Leaping in them will not give Gau the Rage. Pugs is no. 255 in the data, and
since Guard is no. 00 and Soldier 01 etc, that would make Pugs the 256th Rage,
which is too high for the programmers to come with Rages. At any rate, the
Pugs Rage would've given Gau a weakness against fire while making him absorb water-elemental
attacks and making him immune to Stone, Death, Count, Weak, Berserk, Confuse,
Sleep and Stop. The attacks he would have performed are Battle and Pugs'
Special, Knife. This is a Level 14 (!) attack, a physical attack that would've
been twice as powerful as the legendary Catscratch.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.4 Level up
bonuses
**********************************
Nothing important here, just a few dummied level up bonusses. I do wonder what
they wanted to do with LV + 50 %. How can you do such a thing by increasing one
level?
Speed + 2
HP + 100 %
LV + 30 %
LV + 50 %
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.5 Character
sprites
**********************************
There are quite a few more, which are pretty insignificant (such as a Ghost
looking sad when facing him from behind), but these few struck me as being
special enough to post here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.6 Graphics
**********************************
I’m ever-so slightly cheating here, as this pic, as far as I know,
can only be found on the PSX releases of the game. Nevertheless, Terra’s
menu pic as an Esper, as all menu portraits based off of Amano’s artwork.
A black Atma
weapon...nah, basically just the Atma Weapon without a palette. Actually not
really a dummy, but for some reason I found this picture extremely amusing.
Mog's like the Final Fantasy VI Yoda here. And it's an alternative image (so
technically a dummy), because I had to mess with the layers on my SNES before I
could see it. The middle version I could see as well, but the small version
caused glitches.
This is one of those images that was supposed to be smacked into a shape
(I'm pretty sure), like with Sour Mouth and Surge/Sneeze and all those, but
I've never seen it anywhere. Note that this is a spell graphic, but is here put
onto the Mithrilpike. There is a moment where the spear is still visible, but
Mog already has thrown his hand(s, but you only see one) in the air.
If anything, this is an out-battle sprite of the legendary sword/Esper
Ragnarok. With it being the ultimate spell-teaching Esper, they probably wanted
to do something more flashy with it then just having a shopkeeper giving it to
you. But hey, it doesn't take a genius to figure out this game was crippled by
a deadline at some point, and this could be the reason this graphic was never
used. Note:
colour not determined.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.7 Can’t
Leap bit
**********************************
Gau can Leap....but not until the rascal checked two circumstances. If he's
alone, he won't make the jump and say 'Can't dive!'.
The game also checks for a bit that can be set in a monster formation. If this
bit is set, the same effect is produced. This bit
is never used, and therefore a dummy. Only speculations can help to answer
where this bit would have been used. Maybe the Veldt
had a different lay-out when this was coded, or maybe a monster formation such
as Pugs could have been marked...you can't get
their Rage anyway, and their appearance on the Veldt still makes sense
(unlimited Minerva).
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7.8 AI Script
oddities
**********************************
FlameEater will counter your Demi and/or Quartr spells with either a Quartr or
Flare spell from his side. This is very nice, but since
FlameEater has Death protection and spells which miss don't allow a counter,
this will never happen.
Dadaluma will not whistle for Iron Fist allies unless he's Muted, but there's
simply no way to Mute him at that point of the game.
When Umaro the enemy takes a Green Cherry to itself, the message "Power
100 times up! Defense up! Mag Def up! Speed up! Recovery up!" appears. He
will then try to set Regen on himself, but due to Seizure immunity this never
happens.
The same failed self-status appliance appears with Girl (angel head at the
third tier of the final battle) with Regen and with Air Force with the Haste
status (Air Force is protected from Slow).
**********************************
8.0 Cutscene dialogue
**********************************
Some stray comments in the
game that never quite made it (or have slipped between five years of playing
the game). These are all lines uttered OUTSIDE of battles. All of them. It
is possible some of these lines are to be found in the game. It's just highly
unlikely I should have missed more then a few of these. Recognize something in
this list? Contact me and you'll be noted (and the line will be removed,
ofcourse).
Note that I wrote all start-up names there instead of the code that put the
name you gave them there. The code said, for example, (C 3)
Between
some passages on the ship to Crescent Island (together with Leo and CELES and
SHADOW and some Impirial Soldiers ‘nd stuff). It would be neat if you
could actually take GAU with you to Crescent Island, but he lingers in the Pub
of Vector (GAU: Smells like parents' house here...why so familiar?) to ponder
the meaning of things. Hypothetically, you could leave GAU on the Veldt during
the whole Gesthal-is-friendly scenario, and then pick him up for the journey to
Crescent Island (where this piece of dialogue comes in). However, there’s
no way to get to the Veldt with the Blackjack down and the ship of Albrook
going to Cresecent Island only. If you manage to cheat Gau in your party at
this point, this conversation will appear.
TERRA: ‘Where's
GAU’?
LOCKE: He hates ships.
We must leave him behind!
See the deleted scene in full
action HERE. It requires Windows Media Player.
LOCKE in his
own scenario.
Gotta get moving! The attack on Narshe is imminent. Who knows what's going to
happen next?
The
Impirial base. Potentially said when SABIN and SHADOW are found?
SOLDIER: Rogue!!!
This
is Zozo. The creepy monster’s are probably the Espers. This must’ve
been the ‘honest’ guy in Zozo who says this (‘cause he’s
not lying), but it never passed my eyes in the game.
"Some woman flew up to
the top floor!
"Did you say "flew..."?
That must be TERRA!!!!!
Creepy monster's live up
there. Look out fer 'em!
Anybody
really said this in Vector, before the Big Scam? Guess not, since no friend of
ours goes to the cafe. There is, however, a Cafe in Vector, and the line
that Edgar uses in Tamasha (I got to know the gal that brought us tea)
indicates that he (they) has spent some time in the Cafe.
Your friends?They're in the
cafe.
Supposedly
said after Kefa followed you into the Sealed Gate and was defeated/blown away
by the Espers, but it never made the game (he was blown off):
KEFKA: D...Drat it all!! I
won't forget this!
These
were the things SHADOW would have said on board of the Blackjack would he be in
your party. Point is, you can never have him in your party in the World of
Balance...not as a changing one at least. Every time you try to take him to the
place where you can switch around (Narshe in the beginning, the Blackjack
later), he leaves. The first one is en general, the second one after
the Blackjack crashed down due to Esper Power.
SHADOW:’Why am I
here?’ For the money, I guess.
SHADOW: I think Kefka's out
for General Leo's hide!
When you
meet Shadow with Terra and Locke just before they go to Thamasa, he'll say I'm
working for the Empire. But don't worry...I'm not going to garrote you!' This
displays you knowing eachother already. It is however possible to have entirely
ignored Shadow so far, and that's why the programmers created a line for a Shadow
who doesn't know you. They forgot to put it in, though:
SHADOW: You kids stay out of trouble now, you hear?
And some
other characters you couldn’t have had at all at the Blackjack. Notice
the excessive amount of background story provided by these sentences:
GOGO:??
UMARO: Uhhhh?
And
then the Two from Tamasha who would have said the following after the crashing,
were it not they join you in your fight AFTER that crash:
STRAGO: ...I've never seen
anyone so sleazy as Kefka.
RELM: I'm sure those Espers
are all very kind!
Not
sure:
Say...you look like...aren't
you’Maria’! Sorry, my mistake...
A
whole bunch of sentences was ‘censored’ from the game concerning
RELM and Owzer, the rich man in Jidoor. Here they are:
At the start of the battle, since not hitting the
girl in the painting but only damaging the demon is the trick to defeat the
guy:
OWZER: No! Noooo! You can't ruin this painting of my revered goddess! Aim only
for the monster!!
And this comes afterwards. Although this is official
way it's listed in the game, it would make more sense if the conversation about
'We need Relm' comes before the taking of the 'stone' and OWZER's complaining
about it.
RELM: The stone?! Won't you take the stone?!
OWZER: Hey, not that.
That's priceless!! But seeing as you saved my hide, I'll give it to you as
well.
OWZER: The stone in
question is in the middle of the shelf.
OWZER: What a tremendous
gift! This young lady's pictures just might help salvage this rotting world of
ours!
"We need to take RELM with
us! She might just be our only chance to restore the sunny days of our
not-too-distant past!"
OWZER: Cough_hack...
RELM: Old man! Are you all
right?!
OWZER: You think things
will ever be as they were?
"We don't know, but if
we don't try..."
OWZER: We'll lose
everything?
"We haven't much time.
We need RELM's help now?"
OWZER: Let me at least hug
her one last time...
OWZER: RELM...Cough...Hackack...Will
you come back some day? And paint me another of your masterpieces?
RELM: I'll come back.
OWZER: Thank you...Such a
nice girl!
(snicker).
This was somewhere to be found.

Flashbacks from TERRA when she just fell down:
TERRA: No! Get away
from me!
CID: This is my finest work.
These Magitek converters combine the power of magic with machines?
TERRA still unconscious while LOCKE and
the Moogles are putting up with Marshal
TERRA: Unh?
A hint that TERRA (you) should walk
around the castle for a bit before heading back to the throne room. However,
EDGAR flees the scene after being turned down by TERRA, and never stays around
to say anything.
EDGAR: Come find me when you feel rested.
When you leave Duncan’s House in
the World of Balance for the first time, you’ll hear this. EDGAR's reply
was left out/forgotten.
MAN: Of course. He left a couple of days ago after he heard Master Duncan was
slain.
He headed into the mountains.
I heard Duncan's son, Vargas, is missing as well.
I have a bad feeling about this...
EDGAR: He must have gone to pay his respects to his mentor, Duncan...
And thus TERRA meets VARGAS, and shows
how timid and nice she in fact is by insulting him without reason (she’s
right, but has no prove at all that moment):
TERRA: YOU! You're the coward who murdered Master Duncan!
BANON is nowhere to be found ‘til
you have talked to all three of your party members, so he’s not around to
say this:
BANON: TERRA?
Talk to everyone here, heed their advice.
The wounded Returner stumbles in,
hardly able to speak. TERRA discovers something that nobody knew already.
TERRA: He's badly wounded!
The bit where MOG (another one then
your party member, by the way) asks you to take a pick between the three
scenario’s. The way it was done in the game has you using MOG to ‘speak’
to the three groups. This was an alternative solution which they left behind, I
guess.
(Please choose a scenario.)
BANON and Co.
SABIN
LOCKE
This was stored among the lines that
appear around the hut of GAU's father, but I can’t think of anybody there
saying this (perhaps the Merchant, but all Merchant lines have ‘Merchant:’
in it.
Come to think of it...
I saw some total geek when I last went south, to the Veldt.
Watch yourselves in those parts!
Sounds like the Serpent Trench, but is
stored before that, around the time you obtain SHADOW. Maybe the Imperial Base,
then.
SABIN: The going is bound to be...pretty rough...
Probably this last lines of a Soldier
who has the unfortunate fate of running into SABIN and SHADOW.
SOLDIER: Who in blazes're YOU?
Probably talking about Leo.
KEFKA: What an oaf!
When I get my hands on him...
People can be so flattering about
strangers...fortunately, this guy’s not.
There's only one airship in the world. It's owned by a gambler, or should I say
pirate??
Two lines uttered by LOCKE. No answers
are given to his questions.
LOCKE:
Impresario, what's up above the stage?
LOCKE: That has to be a joke!
The first one is a dummy, and you’ll
get a scene involving CID and SETZER interacting (in a bad way) instead if you
head back after the banquet to the Blackjack. Not to be confused by :? SETZER:
Repairs aren't finished yet. You'd better take the boat from Albrook.?, which
he sais after the scene is over.
SETZER: I'll have to repair the air ship. Go scout around and let me know
what's happening.
Kefka, just before he tosses Ifrit and
Shiva into the pit. You?ll hear the laughing sound in the game, making the
quote useless.
Nee, hee, hee, hee, hee!
Most likely TERRA, but definately after
the Espers escape from the Sealed Gate.
"Something happened??
"I'm not sure??
IF you would have CELES just after the
Blackjack crashed down in flames due to the Espers, CELES would have siad this.
However, the good girl is still imprisoned by the Empire and you won’t
see her until the trip to Thamasha.
Celes: Kefka's sure to come up with another demented plan. We need to do
something FAST!
Thanks go to
Sky Render for this information: This is something Woolsey did not bother to
translate. As he translated everything (with a single exception I can think
of), he didn't know what was going to be in the game and what wasn't. The
Japanese line sais that you receive a Cicadia, a kind of bug. The
tranlsator probably didn't know what this was (no shame there, I Googled it
m'self as well) and left it open for the time being. He either forgot or
discovered that it wasn't going to be in the game and left it like this.
Got "?????.
I always thought it was bizarre that
SABIN never responds when he and CELES see GERAD in Nikeah. Here the sentence
is.
SABIN: What's going on, here? Brother!!
I’m not sure if this is dummied
or not, but it’s not the crazy old man who has stored Rachel in his
basement.
LOCKE just left here a while ago. He was happy...
...saying something about learning where some mystic treasure was...
CELES: LOCKE?
He's alive!!

9.0 Battle text
**********************************
Here come
the in-battle ones, meaning that the following are lines that should have
appeared at the TOP of the screen. Lines at the bottom of the screen
are part of in-game events which I sadly have not been able to look at.
Sounds like our buddy Ultros.
Get away! Or I'll thrash
ya!!
At
first glance I thought this was Chadarnook, but he sais: "I...I'm... This
can't be......" after he dies. I have no idea where to fit this, since
explicit narcism is a trait of a LOT of opponents in FF games.
It can't be......! I...I'm
invincible!!
The
game just produces a whistling sound instead of showing this. Dadalume whistles
to summon Iron Fist monsters to help him.
Dadaluma whistled!
Only
two monsters I can think of cast Life/Life 2 at another one and those are Girl
(from the thirth tier) and Curley (from the Dream Stooges). Should fit in
somewhere around there.
Revived
Sounds
like Storm Drgn:
Cyclone attack
Harvester,
Ursus and Dadaluma all steal your GP under certain circumstances (Harvester and
Dadaluma as a counter attack for YOUR Steal/Capture command).
Steal your GP!
Hidon
absorbs poison-elemental attacks. Perhaps this was displayed after a
poison-elemental attack?
Absorbed by Hidon!
Harvester
and Dadalume counter the Steal/Capture command with their own Steal/Capture
attack, but it’s also Rider and Dante who counter your stealing with
their nasty special. I’d guess it was Rider here.
You bloody thief! I'll
teach you a lesson!
I
have NO idea. They are stored under different pointer values, but are
definately alike enough to fit in the same battle. Maybe this was the first
layout of Guardian’s battle program including?
Enemy's combat ability: A
Enemy's combat ability: B
Enemy's combat ability: C
Doom
Gaze was an incredibly interesting monster, if you believe the dummy battle
text. All these lines were never used in the game, and they’re false too.
Blinding Doom Gaze doesn’t stop him from using Doom, etc. Also, Doom Gaze
CANNOT be blinded and/or Silenced. Different pointer values, same battle (in
Doom Gaze’s case, various ones).
Doom Gaze was cured of
injury! Ice-elemental attack recovered!
Doom Gaze became blind!
Can't use "Doom"!!
Doom Gaze became mute!
Can't use Ice-elemental attack!!
Cut Doom Gaze's poisonous
claw! Can't use "Poison" attack!!
Doom Gaze was cured of
injury! Doom recovered!
This
is totally going in the wrong direction. Killing the main Hidon also kills all
little Hidonites, so it’s a no-go if you think you can kill Hidon and
then watch another Hidonite change into Hidon again.
Hidonite changes into Hidon
The
famous CzarDragon quote. I’m shaking in my Hobbit boots.
Mwa. ha ha... Humans and their
desires! I'm free at last! I bring you destruction... I bring you terror... I
am Czar... Prepare yourselves!
???
Yeah, right. It just ends in mid-sentence.
My mission is
I
have no idea whatsoever. You figure it out.
A fellow traveler!
Siegfried,
no doubt here. Maybe it was the original plan to have him fight you? He does
have a Rage, but you could never encounter him outside of the Colloseum and
fight him.
Someone posing as me has
been stealing treasures! Beware of being tricked! Remember. rewards come to
unavaricious people. Well. let's begin!
I
can’t come up with an opponent who knows CYAN be his name and bothers to
give him any credit for his strenght. Colossus responded to SwdTechs, yes, but
he also responds to Blitz attacks and has a grudge against Gau.
Such...strengh! CYAN......
Incredible......
This
monster is either a lying bastard (Dadaluma, for example) or an enemy that
really does help you. And that’s only one, namely Magic Pot. They do talk
in FF V as well, but there it's just 'Gimme 'Lixir', which is a whole different
tongue then displayed below.
What's wrong? You look ill.
Can I be of assistance?
Wrexsoul?
He's...coming to take
control of us!
A specific
item they never had the heart for.
No clue at
all.
Adding up enemies' attacks!
A
whole bunch of practically the same. Dragons don’t summon each other in
the game, that’s for sure. It would be a neat idea, though.
Ice Dragon called its pal!
Skull Dragon summoned!
Storm Dragon called its
pal! Dirt Dragon summoned!
Dirt Dragon called its pal!
Gold Dragon summoned!
Gold Dragon called its pal!
Storm Dragon summoned!
Skull Dragon called its
pal! Blue Dragon summoned!
Blue Dragon called its pal!
Dirt Dragon summoned!
Red Dragon called its pal!
Ice Dragon summoned!
White Dragon called its
pal! Red Dragon summoned!
Some
dummy lines on the elemental dragons. ‘Gold Dragon begins to story energy’
lies between them and is the only that actually exists in the game.
Storm Drgn undergoing
changes!
Dirt Dragon got mad!
Skull Dragon lives on magic
pwr!
Yeah,
whatever. Machines not only pose pretty poor friends, this never happens in the
first place. Since Guardian can load Ultros' battle program, maybe he intended
to summon Chupon here?
Guardian called his pal!
Random
monsters hisses and growls of all sorts. I’m not even starting to guess
where they should have fit in.
Bugobo......Guwaaa!!
Guwooo!!
Guwooo......!
Pa. pai. Ooouch!
Guwooo!!
Guwooo!

10.0 Final
notes about oddities that may or may not deserve their place here but are
anyway
**********************************
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10.1 Joker Doom
**********************************
Joker Doom is the ultimate
attack. It kills everything it hits and because it doesn't check for the 'death
protection'
bit, it will kill everything. Never mind it looks (and feels) just like Level 5
Doom, seeing it in action is an
extremely rare occurrance if you don't know what you're doing. The information
available isn't exactly Strategy Guide
material, so it's safe to assume that Joker Doom is the Extremely Rare,
Extremely Powerfull bad-ass attack.
Now, there are several
monster formations which are protected against the offensive Joker Doom. This
information is
curious. These are the battle formations that are protected from being hit by
Joker Doom:
Battles that don't allow
the offensive Joker Doom:
79 Pirahna x5, Rizopas
387 Ultros (third battle)
420 Phunbaba (first fight)
421 Phunbaba (second fight)
422 Phunbaba (third fight)
432 Whelk (shell), Head (Whelk's head)
435 Vargas, Ipooh x2
439 Ifrit, Shiva
445 Guardian (Invincible)
452 SrBehemoth (living form)
456 Chadarnook (woman and demon forms)
462 Wrexsoul, SoulSaver x2
471 Short Arm, Long Arm, Face (first tier of final battle)
473 Ultros (first battle)
477 Chupon, Ultros
512 Hit, Tiger, Tools, Magic (second tier of final battle)
513 Girl, Sleep (third tier of final battle)
Disregarding the fact there
is a nice bug which will even turn the self-destructive Joker Doom on the
enemies, these
are the batte formations which were never meant to be killed in one hit. But
why is this mentioned in this document?
Where's the dummy? Hang on to your undies....observe how I explain. There is
one thing almost all of these monster
formations have in common. The exception is the invincible Guardian, which was
never designed to be defeated.
All of these (boss)
monsters end their pathetic lives with an event, a last action, a bit turned on
or off. This
tells us that the programmers who created this bit were under the impression
that Joker Doom cancelled (or was going to
cancel) the last attack. I count on your own intelligence to figure out what
exactly these monster formations were going
to do as a last effort before dying, so I won't name them. There are a few last
oddities to be mentioned:
Doom Gaze doesn't have this
bit set, meaning that if Joker Doom had indeed stalled the final attack, this
would have
prevented him from giving Bahamut. Evil.
Narshe Kefka doesn't have
this bit set, so either they forgot, they thought the last line wasn't
important anyway
or they figured they wouldn't be having Joker Doom in Narhse anyway. Which is
weird, seeing as how Ultros # 1 and
Vargas have this bit set.
This Joker Doom-invoked
death would have destroyed soft-coded custom boss-death animations.
Whelk and Head have this
bit set, but there's nothing 'final' in their coding. The only explanation is
that the game
never intended for you to kill both parts at the same time. It's weird they
would go through this trouble, because
this can be accomplished with some timing and a lot of patience anyway, and
there wasn't a way in hell Joker Doom
would have been available in the first fight.
The bit turned in on
WrexSoul/SoulSaver fight shows that the X-Zone strategy was never, ever
intended. If it wasn't
obvious anyway,, but here ya go.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10.2 Sketch
**********************************
Inferno, Umaro, Air Force,
AtmaWeapon, Nerapa, SrBehemoth #1, Doom Gaze, Chadarnook (Starlet form),
Curley, Larry, Moe,
WrexSoul...
They all share the same Sketch palette: Special, Battle. While some of these
monsters have indeed a Special attack to pay
attention to, some monsters just have the standard 'Hit' Special, a damaging
special without any status ailments, graphic
effects the same animation as a thrown punch without a weapon. They were clearly
never be to used, but they are accessible
all-right: accessbiel through Sketch. While questionable in its own right, this
is where the note is justified. Imagine
AtmaWeapon, a monster of pure power. Mainly attacks with all sorts of magical
attack, most of them fire-elemental, or at least
in appearance. If you would fill in a palette for Sketch, would you choose
Special/Battle? And Air Force, a machine which mainly
uses Tek Laser for an attack and on occassion Diffuser, would you choose a
friggin' punch for a Sketch option?
It's obvious that Sketch
became a victim of either a severe case of general memory loss at Square...or a
deadline, which sounds
much more credible. There is no justification whatsoever for these often-seen
useless Specials popping up, and there's no
reason that they should be accessible by Sketch. Even if the programmers at
Square considered Sketch as useless as it turned
out to be, they still had the responsibility for filling these bytes with
spells that gave us some sweet loving rather than
insane physical attacks where they are out of place.
